Headford Freecycle – Sharing More, Wasting Less

Headford Freecycle – Sharing More, Wasting Less

What if the things we no longer need could become exactly what someone else in our community is looking for?

That’s the idea behind Headford Freecycle — a local community space where people can give away unwanted items for FREE, find things they need, and help keep useful items out of landfill.

Headford Freecycle

Why did we create Headford Freecycle?

At SOLAS Family Resource Centre, we regularly receive offers from people who have good-quality items they would like to give away. However, we don’t have the storage space to hold these items, and we can’t always connect the person offering something with someone who might need it.

So, rather than letting those opportunities go to waste, we decided to create a space where the community can make those connections themselves.

SOLAS simply hosts the page — the sharing, connecting and rehoming is up to you!

What can you share?

If something is clean, safe, useful and still has plenty of life left in it, why not offer it to someone else?

You might have:

  • Furniture
  • Household items
  • Toys and games
  • Books
  • Electronics
  • Garden equipment
  • Kitchen items
  • Bicycles
  • Home décor
  • Tools
  • Children’s items
  • And much more!

You can also post an ISO (In Search Of) if there is something you are looking for. Someone nearby might have exactly what you need sitting unused at home.

It’s about more than recycling

Freecycle isn’t just about getting rid of things. It’s about reuse, community and connection.

An unwanted piece of furniture can help someone setting up a home. Toys that have been outgrown can bring joy to another child. A garden tool sitting unused in a shed could be exactly what another neighbour needs.

Instead of buying something new or sending something useful to landfill, we can give it another chance.

A few simple rules

Headford Freecycle is a FREE sharing space, so items must always be offered for free. There is no selling, swapping for money or asking for payment.

We also ask members to:

  • Be honest about the condition of items.
  • Be kind, friendly and respectful.
  • Arrange collection directly with each other.
  • Never share exact addresses or phone numbers publicly.
  • Keep posts relevant to Freecycle.
  • Read the group rules before posting.

Used car seats and animals are not permitted. Items received through the group should not be taken for the purpose of reselling them.

Our values

Headford Freecycle is built around a few simple values:

Honesty • Decency • Friendliness • Inclusion • Community First • Kindness

We want this to be a welcoming space where people feel comfortable giving, asking and connecting with others.

There is no judgement about why someone needs an item. Sometimes we all need a little help, and sometimes we all have something useful to give.

Give what you no longer need

Before taking something to the dump, leaving it unused in the shed or putting it in the attic for another five years, ask yourself:

Could someone else use this?

If the answer is yes, share it on Headford Freecycle.

And if you are looking for something, ask! You never know what someone in Headford or the surrounding area might have tucked away.

Reduce • Reuse • Rehome

By sharing what we already have, we can reduce waste, save useful items from landfill and support one another along the way.

Join Headford Freecycle, share what you can, ask for what you need, and help us build a kinder, greener community — one free item at a time. ♻️💚

Headford Freecycle is hosted by SOLAS Family Resource Centre. SOLAS does not store, collect, deliver or hold items. Members arrange giving and collection directly with one another.
